Fact check: LGBTQ community rejects false association with pedophiles

The claim: The LGBT acronym has expanded to comprise a “P,” for “pedosexual.”

Numerous images circulating on Facebook in the past limited weeks show a poster with the acronym LGBTP, which images claim stands for “lesbian, gay, multi-attracted , transgender, and pedosexual.” Under the acronym, the poster includes the words "Equality and acceptance."

A user who posted that image, which went viral, did not respond to a request from USA TODAY for comment or substantiation.

Another viral composite photo includes text that claims to be from the LGBT Foundation and show the words “Love is gender and age-blind,” and text that claims to be from FCKH8 that reads "Some people are child lovers. Get over it." Both are emblazoned on gay pride flags, and accompanied by tweets from a now-deactivated account that uses the hashtag "LGBTP."

    GLOSSARY

The terms and definitions below are always evolving, switching and often mean distinct things to different people. They are provided below as a starting aim for discussion and sympathetic. This Glossary has been collectively built and created by the staff members of the LGBTQIA Resource Center since the first s.

These are not universal definitions. This glossary is provided to help provide others a more thorough but not entirely comprehensive understanding of the significance of these terms. You may even consider asking someone what they indicate when they use a term, especially when they use it to explain their identity. Ultimately it is most important that each individual define themselves for themselves and therefore also define a designation for themselves.

“If I didn't define myself for myself, I would be crunched into other people's fantasies for me and eaten alive.” -Audre Lorde

This glossary contains terms, such as ableism and disability, that may not be considered directly related to identities of sexuality or gender. These terms are key to acknowledge as part of our mission to challenge all forms of oppression
