The fight to keep Homosexual books, stories in libraries
Author Alex London says there is more at stake than just reading when it comes to books representing the Gay community.
"When you pull a book off the shelf, because it has a queer character, and it's a 'This isn't appropriate,' what you're saying to everyone in your collective is these people are inappropriate. That promotes a culture of bullying that can promote feelings of self-loathing that leads to suicide. And I really do believe lives are at stake in these book arguments."
London has written nearly 30 books.

Celebrating Our Communities Flag Raising
Friday, June 3 | 12 noon
On Friday, June 3 at noon, the Office of LGBT Affairs will host its annual Flag Raising Event at City Hall to kick off Identity festival season in Philadelphia. In addition to raising the iconic More Color, More Pride flag; this year&#;s program theme, Celebrating our Communities, will include speakers from across our Diverse community sharing the many ways we celebrate our pride.
Speakers will highlight their connection with upcoming people events throughout Pride month and beyond, including Disability Pride, Immigrant Heritage Month, the Philadelphia Trans Wellness Conference, and more!
Following the speakers’ portion of the program, the More Tint, More Pride flag will be raised by ceremonial flag-raisers comprised of fresh and veteran members of the Mayor’s Commission on LGBT Affair

PHILADELPHIA – The City of Philadelphia released road closure information for the PHL Movement March and Festival. PHL Pride, organized by the PHL Pride Collective, will take place on Sunday, June 5.
Festival Activities & Information: This year’s event marks the 50th anniversary of Philadelphia’s first Lgbtq+ Pride Day in and will feature the PHL Pride March beginning at 11 a.m. The protest will begin at Arch Street, make two stops at historic landmarks for Pride and Philadelphia, and end at 12th Lane and St. James Place where the PHL Event Festival will begin at noon.
The PHL Pride Festival is a street festival celebrating the LGBTQ+ people and will feature society resources, youth and family programming, a low sensory relaxation zone, a sober space and dry lock area, and, in keeping with PHL Pride Collective’s dedication to highlighting Lgbtq+, Trans, Black Indigenous, and People of Color (QTBIPOC) traditions and forms of expression, Kiki Alley, a celebration space highlighting the rich culture and history of the Philadelphia ballroom community. Mayor’s Office of LGBT Affairs flag raising
Join the Mayor’s Office of LGBT Affairs while they boost their More Color, More Pride flag at Philadelphia City Hall.
This year’s theme is Celebrating Our Communities. Speakers at the event will include members from across the Gay community who will divide how they celebrate identity festival. If you’re unable to attend the event in person, it will be streamed via the organization's Instagram page.
