The third series is currently in production in New York, and sources have revealed that Ed Westwick, who plays Chuck Bass, will have an encounter with a new gay traits, university student Josh Ellis, played by Neal Bledose.
Gossip Girl has proved popular with gay fans on both sides of the Atlantic.
In 2008 Westwick's decision to divide an apartment with co-star Chace Crawford led to rumours about their relationship.
Gossip blogs Perez Hilton and Queerty dot com claimed they had been contacted by reporters at NY Daily News and The New York Publish claiming to have proof the heartthrobs were a couple.
Crawford's publicist has issued a statement to Us Weekly confirming that he is "100 percent straight."

The "Gossip Girl" actor, 37, and "Supergirl" alum, 32, wed in a "timeless" ceremony in Italy on Saturday, Jackson confirmed to People magazine Sunday.
The couple first wed in a London ceremony earlier this month. But the Italian nuptials offered "romance and vintage charm."
"We wanted a wedding notice that was not only naturally beautiful, surrounded by the ocean, hills and vineyards, but also singular, and we found just that," the "2.0" actress told the outlet.
The festivities included guests such as Kelly Rutherford, Westwick's "Gossip Girl" co-star, and model Daisy Lowe.

The photo carousel features magazine-worthy pics of Amy, 32, who proudly shows off her infant bump in a chic white dress. In one sweet pic, Ed, 37, sweetly cradles his wife’s stomach.
While this is Ed’s first child, the Supergirl actress is the mother of 4-year-old Andreas—whom she shares with her ex George Panayiotou.
Ed and Amy’s baby news comes just two months after they tied the knot during a lavish wedding ceremony at the Castello di Rocca Cilento—a five-star hotel located inside of a walled-off castle in Rocca Cilento, Italy, near the Amalfi Coast.
Alongside pictures from their attractive wedding day, Ed wrote on an Aug. 26 Instagram post, “The journey has just begun.”
