LGBTQ+ perspective on BL/GL (+lgbt comic promos)
As a gay man, I think there is a whole other issue with the sentence "if your gay story makes the gays uncomfortable you are doing something wrong" in its self.
The problem here is that within the community itself - at least that's my trial when talking about it - there is the same generalisation going on that non LGBTQ people "from the outside" train. Putting the taste of a whole community which is based on something so vague and (ideally) diconnected from personality favor sexuality. (The thing I am refering here to is gay men, which I believe to be the most represented part of the community, to a big part probably thanks to the linear yaoi fanbase you described. When it comes to other underrepresented groups within the queer community, then I can't speak off them.)
For me, I really like typical yaoi. I love the romanticised watch on it - I love stories in which people fall in adoration and just become joyful together. I love that. Supporting Queer Comics Creators
In the early days of Comic Book Herald, Id occasionally get promotional Kickstarter emails teasing a queer sci-fi saga (or some such), and Ill fully admit, I did not understand what sexuality had to do with the promotion. What did the queerness of this operate have to do with selling me on the story and artistic vision of the comic book?
Im not a part of the community, and theres a lot I still dont understand, but I see now that theres inherent value in marginalized perspectives in story, and theres worth in supporting the voices that aim to tell them. So many of my favorite comic books are either directly or indirectly about queer people, relationships, and community, and vast amounts of my favorite comic book creators identify as gay, lesbian, trans, bisexual person or other identifiers in the LGBTQIA+ range. The simple reality is that the more queer stories and creators at the forefront of comics, the better variety of brand-new , exciting works we receive to enjoy.
Its a treacherous time to be homosexual in America. We dont get to simply solve that by supporting gender non-conforming comics creators. But in addition to substantive

I'm not alone." :) Well, I suppose that's fair enough . |
