Gay Relationship Advice: Age Gaps in Gay Relationships
Many of my LGBTQ counseling clients ask me why they are only attracted to gay men younger than themselves. If you are happy dating gay men in their twenties, then this question is not important. It’s like asking “Why do I favor blondes over brunettes?” My advice is to consent yourself enjoy dating whomever interests you (as elongated as they are over the age of 18).
Age gap relationships are more common than you may realize. In western countries:
- 1 out of every twelve male/female couples has an age gap of 10 years or more
- that number increase to 25% in male/male couples
- and 15% of female/female relationships
That same investigate indicated that age gap partners are more satisfied and more committed to each other than partners of similar age–though there is some research that points to a correlation with higher rates of divorce. Research also shows that couples with an age gap of less than ten years are happier than those with an age gap greater than ten years. What No One Tells You About Being A Middle-Aged Gay
Embracing aging as a gay man can be an overwhelming and liberating experience…
By Jumol Royes
Gay tradition is youth obsessed. That’s not breaking news.
Yet not even the gay glitterati have figured out how to stop the hereditary clock and put a halt to the aging process.
I turned 40 recently and was forced to reckon with the wonderful expectations this birthday is burdened with. After remembering that birthdays are simply temporal markers that we use to remind ourselves, and each other, that we’re still here taking up space, I got to thinking about all the things no one tells you about becoming a middle-aged gay man.
For starters, you don’t get an email or handset notification reminding you to change your Grindr tags and tribes from twink, twunk or cub to bear, daddy or zaddy, for those of you with a little extra swagger in your step.
Planning to meet up for drinks with a guy from the dating app? Be prepared to possibly spend more money than you accounted for when you discover that you’re not only responsible to pay for your control drinks, but to cover the tab of the hottie you’re hoping to hook up wit
Most of the aging process doesn’t scare me. The idea of having gray hair is exciting, so long as I still have hair when that time comes. I reflect my smile lines produce me look dashing in some lights. (In others, like Annabelle.) I hold no reason to tap my toes, so no biggie there. If I end up aging anything like my mother, I’ll have close to zero complaints.
What does scares me though, is the notion of being an aged twink. Here's a collapse course for my beloved straight readers: In the gay community, there are different sub-categories of gays. I’m not exactly sure how they came to be, but surely it has something to act with the innate call for to group things together by category. (Think #organizationporn.) Whatever the reason, a multitude of factors compete into how you’re sorted, but by large, they come down to your age and body type.
A twink is a new, skinny, typically hairless fresh gay man like Justin Beiber.
A bear is an older, heavier set male lover man with ample body and facial hair enjoy Ron Offerman.
An otter is like a bear but leaner like Zachary Quinto.
Those are just three of them — there are plenty more. Jock, snake, cub, wolf, pup, pocket gay, daddy, beaver. (Just kiddi
Gay dating | 6 reasons you should consider matchmaking app an older man
In an article about some guys’ attraction to the older man, Loren A. Olsen writes about an exchange he once had with a younger man who constantly falls for older guys. Describing this favor, the young man said: “I like men with rounded corners; they include all their sharp edges worn off”.
While age, of course, is never a guarantee of maturity for everyone, an older guy is more likely to have gotten his being together. In a identity where gay and bisexual person men are often shunned from the pool of potential partners once they reach a certain age, it’s worth again stressing the many benefits there may be to virtual dating an older guy.
1. He has more life experience
Having more life experience means that older guys are treasure troves of knowledge, anecdotes and wisdom. When you’re dating an older man, you can enumerate on lively conversation that’s rarely boring, with titbits of erudition sprinkled through. He’s less likely to be bothered by nonsense and to take things too seriously.
2. He has a good idea of who he is
That juvenile man’s reason for digital dating someone a little older rings true here. While we’re all a small
