Billy Gilman and Ty Herndon: Country Singers Come Out as Gay
— -- Two country stars, Ty Herndon and Billy Gilman, made personal announcements on Thursday: They're gay.
Herndon, 52, went first, telling People magazine that he realized he was gay when he was about 10 years old and told his loved ones ten years later.
Now, in a content relationship with his longtime partner, Matt, Herndon is looking forward to one day marrying and starting a family. He's also hoping that his announcement will help others.
"During an Anthony Robbins seminar, I realized I had an incredible story that could possibly help someone's son or daughter or grandchild's life not be as difficult as mine has been," he told the magazine. "Maybe they wouldn't have to go through as much pain and suffering. It's time to tell my truth."

NASHVILLE, Tenn. -- Country music celebrity Ty Herndon now describes himself as "an out, proud and happy male lover man."
Herndon tells People magazine he realized he has an incredible story that could possibly help someone's child or grandchild not to go through as much suffering as he has. Herndon, who's 51, says he came out to close family when he was 20. He was married twice and now has a longtime male partner, Matt.
Shortly after Herndon's announcement, country celebrity Billy Gilman also came out as being homosexual. Gilman posted a note to YouTube, thanking Herndon for breaking the ice.

Gilman, who is now 26, said "being a gay, male country designer is not the foremost thing." Rumors have been swirling over his sexuality for a few years now, CNN reports, and he believes major harmony labels may have thumbed their noses at him over it.
"I knew something was wrong when no major label wanted to sit down and possess a meeting and hear to the new stuff," Gilman said.
